Food Share

Matthew 25:31-40  “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory.  Then
the king will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the
foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you
welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’  Then the
righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink?  And
when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing?  And when was it that we saw you sick or in
prison and visited you?’  And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members
of my family, you did it to me.’

Establised in 1994, AUMC Food Share collects, purchases, stores and delivers groceries to senior citizens and their families in our community every month.  Metrocrest Services interviews and selects 25 Carrollton and Farmers Branch residents in greatest need, provides these names to Food Share, and we deliver groceries directly to their homes.  That's 300 deliveries per year, an effort which requires significant volunteer participation, coordination, organization, support and enthusiasm in all weather conditions.

Over it's lifetime, Food Share has made more than 7,500 deliveries of produce, packaged goods and meats!  This program is more than a grocery delivery service.  We teach our children by example the importance of caring for our neighbors.  We are invited into the homes of the senior citizens and build relationships.  We learn that we speak different languages but can still communicate with one another.  We share with and pray for one another.  Some senior citizens minister to us, and we receive smiles, hugs and memories that will live in our hearts forever.

The program intertwines the efforts of the Giving Garden, Aldersgate UMC, Hebron and Creekview High School students, Boy Scout Troop #753, Trail Life Troop TX-5657, American Heritage Girls Troop TX-5657, Metrocrest Services, and other community volunteers to fill an otherwise unmet need.  All of these organizations and people work together in support of Food Share to not only ensure senior citizens in need receive sustenance, but also to let these folks know that people in their community really care about them.  Food Share is: neighbors helping neighbors - for a quarter of a century!

Food Share is generally scheduled for the last Saturday of each month, but the dates may be adjusted to accommodate the holidays.  For information about specific delivery dates, please reference our church calendar.

To join in the fun, park nearby and enter the north door of the church (facing Kroger) at 8:30am on a scheduled Food Share morning.  Dress is casual - just make sure you wear a smile.

Contact Debbie & Randy Fast with any questions.

Food Share appreciates the donation of non-perishable items to help support this program.  Collection baskets can be found as you enter the north entry to the narthex.
